Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to permanently reduce the fat beneath the chin, commonly referred to as a double chin or submental fullness. It works by using a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the targeted area, Kybella destroys fat cells so they can no longer store or accumulate fat.

Once the fat cells in the treatment area are eliminated, the results are considered permanent. The submental fat does not return because the cells responsible for storing it are no longer there. Most clients achieve their desired result with two to four treatment sessions spaced at least four to six weeks apart.

Kybella is a particularly strong option for clients who carry stubborn fat beneath the chin that does not respond to diet or exercise, or for those who want meaningful improvement in their chin profile without surgery or significant downtime. There is typically some swelling and tenderness in the days following each session, which is a normal part of the process as the body clears the treated fat cells.
